Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Viva

So we extended and did two nights in Rome. Over two days I walked over 55km. The City is probably one of the most amazing that I've ever visited and we only scratched the surface in terms of what we saw. Can't wait to come back here. ...

We spent 3 days pre cruise in Rome. We used the train service to get to Civitavecchia to board our cruise. I booked tickets in advance, they were cheap and the train was only 50 minutes. We then got a shuttle from the station to the port. We stayed in a hotel near the termini train station which was walking distance. We walked everywhere over the 3 days, pantheon, Vatican, Trevi fountain, Spanish ...

What can you say about Rome but wow. You could spend a month there and not visit it all. We took a three hour tuktuk tour that was spectacular. Yes, it's packed with tourists, but there is so much to see that you can avoid the big crowds and still see amazing sights. ...

We stayed for two days prior to the cruise by the Tiber River. We didn’t go to the main attractions as we had been there before but crossed the river and visited the Trastevere area. Was a nice area with plenty of old churches, restaurants and other sites. Was nice to avoid the crowds. ...

Spent a few days in Rome before the cruise playing tourist. Was able to see the Colosseum and several other important sites. The Pantheon was incredible - it was the only one we did w/o a guide (did a self guided tour - highly recommend). Saw the Christmas ...

Of course, there's much to see and do in Rome. I stayed in an area called Lido di Ostia, which is near the ocean and was reasonably priced. It took about 45 minutes via train to get to the Collisseum. To get to the port, I think it was approximately 1.5 hours via train. This is much more cost effective than purchasing a transfer to the port via the cruiseline. Train travel wasn't hard, and I ...
